This means meeting the diverse needs of all people in existing and future communities, promoting personal well-being, social cohesion and inclusion, and creating equal opportunity.✅

Sustainable architecture and sustainable constructionBy applying the complex concept of sustainability to architecture, the challenge of creating healthy living environments is presented, aiming to minimize negative environmental impacts, energy consumption and use of human resources.This type of architecture is reflected in a building's materials, construction methods, use of resources and design in general.The design must also facilitate clean and efficient operation throughout the life cycle of the building, including its final disposal.While it has to be functionally and aesthetically superior, the space must be built with the mindset of achieving long-term energy and resource efficiency.This niche of architecture is also called green architecture or ambient architecture.✅
Sustainable development in BrazilBrazil follows the same UN sustainable development goals.In practice, the country relies more on renewable energy sources (including biofuels) than any other major energy consumer in the world.The country's forests are also topics of discussion and need protection.The country has organized campaigns with the goal of reducing deforestation by around 80%. However, important forests such as the Amazon and the Atlantic Forest continue to be devastated and exploited to make way for monocultures that produce low quality food, full of pesticides; or to become pasture to meet the demand generated by the meat consumption market.Despite Brazil being closely engaged in the environmentalist agenda, due to the amount of natural sources available in its territory, it still needs to improve its public policies in relation to the preservation of its natural resources.The country has invested mainly in economic development, which is often at odds with environmental protection, largely as a result of the enormous expansion of the agricultural sector.Despite this, the mainland country has one of the cleanest electricity portfolios in the world. In 2018, around 65% of its electricity supply came from large hydroelectric projects and over 15% came from wind, solar and biomass.Meanwhile, auctions for wind and solar projects generated bids to produce renewable energy at some of the lowest prices in the world and attracted $6 billion in investment in 2017.Large-scale hydropower development has reached a point of diminishing returns.Despite being considered a renewable energy source because it is generated by water, it causes great impacts because it requires monumental constructions that alter entire ecosystems and can generate irreversible environmental damage, in addition to catastrophic accidents that have already occurred in the country numerous times.
There is still progress to be made on other renewables. For now, wind power accounts for almost 8% of electricity supply.Solar energy accounts for just 0.5%, but it is growing at an impressive rate.✅
Sustainable technologySustainable technology is an umbrella term that describes innovation that considers natural resources and promotes economic and social development.The aim of these technologies is to drastically reduce environmental and ecological risks and create an environmentally friendly product.Sustainability in technology can be applied in a few ways, such as through substitution, which is nothing more than the gradual change from non-biodegradable to biodegradable materials.It also replaces non-renewable resources with renewable ones.It also covers prevention, that is, avoids deterioration, contamination and other negative environmental impacts through its use or production.It takes into account efficiency in terms of energy and resource use.Sustainability in technology has already reached public use and innovation. Common examples of sustainable technology and innovations include:Public and electric transport, LED light technology, solar energy, carbon capture and storage technologies, self-sufficient buildings and construction methods, among others.✅
Sustainable economyA sustainable economy is one that is resilient and provides a good quality of life for all. It stays within the limits of the planet and helps keep global warming well below the 2°C threshold.Ensuring a rapid transition to sustainable economies around the world is a challenge that requires bold leadership and a strong commitment to action.But while we cannot improve – or even maintain – our well-being on a business path, the shift to sustainable economies offers enormous opportunities.
